A skin biopsy is a procedure where a sample of skin tissue is removed, processed, and examined under the view of a microscope. In order to obtain a skin sample, several different methods are used. For the most part, it really will depend on the size, shape, and location of the abnormal area on the skin. The abnormal area of skin where the procedure is being performed is medically referred to as a skin lesion. After being obtained, our skin biopsy experts will place the skin sample either in a solution, such as formaldehyde, or in a sterile container to prevent spreading possible diseases.
